Small Business Development And Marketing Strategies

Since most small businesses have suffered during the past several years due to declining sales generally caused by a chaotic economy, it should be helpful to explore the most practical and realistic marketing strategies available to them. Improving business development efforts is desirable during any financial and economic environment, but there are extra benefits to doing so when sales have declined for whatever reason. Because a typical small business owner does not have the luxury of choosing from many strategies available to larger companies, the marketing improvement process for small businesses is necessarily restricted to a relatively short list of business development alternatives. While the choices will vary from case to case, here are three marketing and business development strategies which will often be considered by small businesses:

* Advertising
* Increasing sales staff
* Business proposals

For most smaller companies, declining revenues have led to some financial challenges and the need to reduce operating expenses already. Therefore it is likely that a common limitation and goal in any marketing decision will be to keep the costs reasonable. When dealing with limited funds, small business owners should evaluate which marketing strategy is the most cost effective method. Business proposal writing usually emerges as the leading choice for small companies when cost effectiveness is taken into account.

There are several kinds of business proposals, and not all of them will be realistic options for each company. Here are the two business proposal types which are likely to be worth reviewing closely:

* Formal proposal solicitations
* Informal and unsolicited proposals

Of these two types, the second (unsolicited and informal proposals) usually deserves the most attention by small businesses. Formally solicited proposals are typically announced by a Request for Proposal (RFP) process and are subject to more public awareness and competition by other companies. Depending on competitive circumstances, it is certainly possible that responding to an RFP might be well-suited to some small business situations. In other words, look carefully before deciding to ignore the RFP possibility.

An informal or unsolicited proposal process potentially offers the most freedom for a small business. Timing is frequently a major problem for an RFP because the company or government agency issuing it determines in advance when it will publish the Request for Proposal and in turn will also determine the deadlines for responses. The timing for unsolicited and informal proposals is effectively under the complete control of the small business which is preparing a proposal. The combination of reduced competition and scheduling flexibility usually makes this a compelling approach to business development and proposals.

The Most Popular Job Roles In Finance

There is a plethora of jobs in the finance industry. Many finance jobs are centered around several primary professions such as commercial banking and investment banking. Naturally the most common jobs fall within those two categories. Currently, the more popular of the two is investment banking. Consequently, the most popular job roles in finance are positions in the investment banking arena.

Industry coverage is a large area covered by investment bankers who specialize in product groups such as utilities, aerospace, real estate, etc. This group has a group of senior bankers called Managing Directors which are backed by Directors, Vice Presidents and Associates. The managing director will help strategize the next move for the group as it grows and the team usually recruits new graduates into this group quite aggressively.

Corporate finance is an area with the primary function of raising money for corporate ventures. As an analyst in this group, you would be responsible for preparing registrations and attend road shows where investors are sold securities. Debt Capital Markets or Equity Capital Markets originate new issues of bonds or securities. They advise about the best time to issue these new debts or equities. Mergers and Acquisitions is yet another department which is under investment banking. Mergers and acquisitions generate fee income for investment banks. The bank sets up the acquisition even under market conditions that would make the acquisition unfavorable through creative methods that benefit all parties and the bank gets paid handsomely for their effort.

Project Finance help fund the infrastructure of a government or oil capital project, generally funneling funds from one foreign country to another when other options for borrowing have dried up. Trading is a job with which most of us are familiar. It is sales of securities on the stock market floor or from an office. Structured finance, derivatives, advisory, equity and fixed income research and international sales and emerging markets are other jobs that can be performed in investment banking.

Public finance, retail brokerage or stockbroker, institutional sales and ratings analyst are the remaining positions in investment banking. Many of these jobs are more glamorous than the others, but they all pay well. The most popular job roles in finance include any position in investment banking which comes with a hefty salary and many also pay bonuses. Commission often accompanies any position that generates sales to compensate for performance. Ratings analysts command an average annual salary of 68,000 with an average of 5,000 in bonuses. An exceptional employee should expect a higher salary. A managing director in Industry Coverage can command a salary of 130,000 to 220,000 annually. The job you pursue in Investment Banking will be your personal choice. Your compensation will be excellent and hopefully, you will find a home based on your talent and interests.

Businesses For Sale – Satisfying Your Inner Entrepreneur

New Zealanders are renowned for their entrepreneurial skills and their desire for autonomy in the workplace while building something that will create a future for themselves, their families and the wider community. With the ability to build an empire out of number 8 wire, many turn their skills to developing and building a business. However, questions do arise as to the best course of action: is it best to start a business from scratch or to purchase an established business that can be streamlined under the careful operational skills of its new owners.

There are many options to purchase businesses for sale in New Zealand which offer the investor a great opportunity to enter the world of the entrepreneur or further extend their business portfolio. One of the key benefits of purchasing an established business is that the company will have a track record of success, staff, stock and a base of customers to which the platform is set for further expansion. There is simply less risk involved when purchasing a business compared with starting a business from scratch. With an established business, the new owners take over an operation that already has a reliable and proven income with future cash generating abilities, a recognised customer base and loyal following of the business, brand and its offerings, along with employees who are familiar with the business.

When considering how the business is to be financed or paid for, it is worth noting that banks and other lending institutions are generally more comfortable lending money for the purchase of a business with a track record. This reduces the risk involved not only for the investors and lenders, but for you as a new business owner.

However, due diligence is required in purchasing any business. Just because a business has a track record of income and profitability doesnt necessarily mean that it is going to carry into the future. Careful consideration must be given to the business fit with the skill set, knowledge and lifestyle that you currently have and your desires for the future. Choosing the right business is a key step, one that reflects your experience and abilities to ensure the future success of that business.

When considering the purchase of a business in New Zealand, it is highly advisable that you seek the advice of a professional consultant from a leading real estate agency. Their experience will greatly assist you in the pre-screening process, ensuring that you are viewing businesses that not only have a viable future, but suit your needs.

Health Care For Canadian Entrepreneurs The Most Sensible Option Is A Best Kept Secret

The Shocking Truth is that you will only realize 70% of the value of a traditional health plan.

The reality is that for the small businesses (especially the sole owner type), monthly health benefit plans are designed to yield around 30% in profit for the Providers when it comes to routine health care expenses. On average, for a small business, you will only get out 70% of the premiums you put in – the traditional monthly plans are designed that way. And, if you claim more in one year, your premiums or limitations will normally increase to maintain that 70/30 ratio.

A Health Spending Account is a great alternative for entrepreneurs.

In contrast, a Health Spending Account (HSA) is far more cost effective for these routine health care expenses, without the artificial percentage and coverage limitations imposed by the insurance carriers. For example, most monthly health plans cover 80% for routine cleaning, up to a fixed annual limit per person. HSA’s have no percentage limits imposed – 100% is covered.

Monthly health plans typically cover only certain services. Few monthly plans cover things like glasses, massage therapy, orthotics, contacts, laser eye surgery, etc. A Health Spending Account allow entrepreneurs’ and their dependents to gain access to a full spectrum of health care services.

The final good news is that Revenue Canada (CRA) allows incorporated Canadian businesses to write-off 100% of the costs of a Health Spending Account, and all claim reimbursements to employees (and dependents) are completely tax-free.

Is it any wonder that today the majority of small Canadian incorporated businesses are now looking at a Health Spending Account, as either their primary, or secondary form of health coverage.

The bottom-line is that it is more economical to cover the routine costs, and the broader range of health care services through a Health Spending Account. In these situations, the monthly benefits plans are more restrictive, more costly and far less flexible.

Lose The Corporate Speak! –an Entrepreneur’s Guide To Getting Noticed In A Noisy Marketplace!

Most entrepreneurs are corporate refugees. All they know is the corporate model. It’s kinda ironic; they choose to leave corporate life to be an entrepreneur, to blaze their own trail and then they fall back on all the boring corporate ways that made them escape from corporate life in the first place! Things like the corporate way of dressing and the corporate way of speaking and the corporate way of eating lunch alone in the food court with the sports section of the paper, unless of course they are taking a big fish client out to lunch or twiddling their thumbs at a business function eating rubber chicken.

The beauty of being an entrepreneur is that it doesn’t have to be that way any more. Why? Because you’re the boss!

There are no rules! Even if there are, you can break them. Why?

Because you’re the boss. Want to start feeling like you really are living the dream? Running your own show? Attracting instead of chasing clients? Heres the best kept secret in business!

Lose the Corporate Speak!

Whats Corporate Speak?

Hi, Im Johnathan Snooze from Boreme Some Moreme and Snore. Our company specializes in the facilitation of soft skills solutions in a proactive environment. Im the project manager. Were a one stop shop for small to medium sized business and our client say we provide excellent customer service. Our core competencies lay in the fields of

Dont be doing that!

Speak to prospects like you are speaking to a good friend. Use simple, direct, colorful language and don’t be afraid of humor. Too many entrepreneurs suffer from Professionalitis. Fortunately, it’s curable. Just talk to the people!

Even though I teach ’em, I don’t get why we have to have courses in public speaking. You’ve been speaking since you were 2. You were walking since you were 2 also. We don’t have courses in Public Walking!

Remember that the corporate guy in the 3 piece suit stops off for a beer on the way home from work just like everyone else. And I guarantee he’s not speaking corporate mumbo jumbo to the bartender or to his buddies when he’s watching the big game.

If you’re preparing a speech and want to test it out, ask a kid. Kids have a natural immunity to professionalitis. Don’t use any words with your business prospects that you couldn’t use with a bright 10 year old. Just be yourself!!! Just talk to people. You’ll connect. In our natural state, we are entertaining and fun and attract naturally. I don’t see many boring kids. But as we get older, especially after we get our first real job, we systematically bury our color.
